MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Western Oregon University women's soccer team defeated the Crusaders 3-0 on Thursday afternoon as both teams opened Great Northwest Athletic Conference play in Monmouth.
“Full credit to WOU, they played well,” commented NNU head coach Jamie Lindvall. “Frankly, I felt like we allowed them to dictate much of the game. Now our job is to learn from our mistakes and improve our level as we face Saint Martin's on Saturday.”
Western Oregon's Marina Austin scored two of the Wolves three goals, finding the net in both the 15th and 59th-minutes. Kymberly Witmer earned an assist on the opening goal and Lauren Vieira assisted in the second half.
Katrina Kern added the final tally in the 81st-minute off a LindsayBauman helper.
The Wolves held a 16-6 shot advantage and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
NNU goalkeeper Tanya Zickefoose allowed the three goals and made four saves. WOU's Brittney Rigtrup made one save in the shutout victory.
The Crusaders will travel to Lacey, Wash., and face Saint Martin's University on Saturday afternoon in a GNAC counter.
