SEATTLE - Seattle Pacific University scored two early goals on their way to a 2-0 defeat of the Crusaders on Thursday night in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener for both teams at Interbay Stadium in Seattle.

The Falcons (2-1-1, 1-0-0 GNAC) Tyler Schultz scored in the 4th-minute with a 15-yard low shot inside the right post and Drew Williams added the second tally in the 29th-minute with a header in the goalmouth that came as a result of a deflected crossing pass off NNU goalkeeper Zander Engeman

SPU's Drew Williams earned an assist on Schultz effort and Schultz and Ryan Brand assisted on Williams counter.

"Today was a tale of two halves," commented NNU head coach Coe Michaelson.  "In the first half we appeared hesitant and we simply didn't compete.  Unfortunately we left ourselves with too much to do, as we were much better in the second half, but the damage was already done.  Now this one is over and if we can build off the second half then we will be just fine."

Engeman made six saves in the match, while SPU's Zach Johnson stopped one.  The Falcons held a 19-4 advantage in shots and corner kicks were even at three each.

The Crusaders (3-1-1, 0-1-0 GNAC) will now travel to Lacey, Wash., and face Saint Martin's University at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in a GNAC match.
