NAMPA, Idaho -
Autumn Yturbe scored the Crusaders first goal of the season and
Jenny Field added two more as the Northwest Nazarene University women's soccer team opened the season with a 4-0 shutout over Eastern Oregon University on Thursday afternoon at the NNU Soccer Field.
Yturbe, a junior from Buhl, Idaho, opened the scoring in the 35th-minute when her shot defected off EOU goalkeeper Chantal Schefers. Schefers appeared to have control of the offering, however the ball came off and rolled across for the first tally of 2011.
Julianne Steele earned an assist on the play, sending the ball up the sideline for Yturbe to finish.
Leading 1-0 at the half, sophomore
Jenny Field would score the second and final goals of the afternoon and senior defender
Jessie Cahill would convert her second career goal.
Field's first goal came in the 69th-minute, an unassisted goal from 12-yards, and her second tally in the 89th-minute completed a deft crossing pass from
Celina Mortensen. Mortensen's assisting cross from the left side found Field for a one-touch shot from eight yards away.
Cahill's second career goal came in the 84th-minute, a four-yard shot just inside the right post, as freshman
Haley Steever served a ball up the middle to find Cahill.
The Crusaders out-shot the Mountaineers 16 to 9 and held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Crusaders will travel to face The College of Idaho on Saturday in Caldwell. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Syringa Middle School.
