ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Northwest Nazarene baseball team split a Great Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader against Central Washington University in Ellensburg on Friday afternoon, falling 4-3 in game one, but bouncing back to win game two 5-3.
Central Washington (5-9, 1-5) scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to rally past the Crusaders (13-5, 2-4) in the opener.
J.T. Brodrick pitched into the ninth for the Crusaders, but
Ryan Brown (1-1) was saddled with the loss in relief.
Sean McDonald led the Crusaders at the plate with two hits, including an RBI single in the seventh.
The Crusaders scored five runs on seven hits in the nightcap as both
Ty Windall and
Zach Hibbard went 2 for 3 and Hibbard collected an RBI on a single in the fourth.
Josh Hatfield was 1 for 3 with a ground-out RBI in the second and a run-scoring double in the fourth.
Charles Pollock (3-1) earned the win on the hill, striking out six and surrendering three hits and one earned run in 4 and 1/3 innings. McDonald came on for the final two innings to earn his fourth save of the season.
The teams will return to action tomorrow at Noon for the final two games of the GNAC series.
