WAIPAHU, Hawaii - Coming off their first defeat of the season, the Northwest Nazarene baseball team bounced back with a 10-2, 6-2 sweep of Hawaii Pacific University on Thursday at Hans L'Orange Field in Waipahu.
Charles Pollock (2-0) earned the win in the opener for the Crusaders, scattering four hits over six innings. Pollock surrendered two earned runs in the first and then shutout the Sea Warriors for the remainder.
Aaron Vaughn tossed three innings of relief, giving up just three hits and striking out two.
Justin Henry led the Crusaders (9-1) at the plate in game one, going 3 for 4 with two RBI. Cameron Louie also finished with three hits and
Ty Windall went 2 for 4 with two RBI and scored three times.
Wade Tamaru led HPU (2-6) with two hits and Brent Queen (0-1) took the pitching loss.
The Sea Warriors opened with two runs in the first, but
Jacob Hiler came on in relief of
Jesse Gwaltney and held HPU scoreless over his four innings of work.
Blake Amaral was 2 for 4 and Troy Ajer was 2 for 2 to lead HPU.
Hiler (1-0) earned the win for NNU, while Cory Yuh (0-2) took the loss for the Sea Warriors.
The teams will return to the diamond tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. for a single game and complete the six-game series on Saturday afternoon.
