Rebounds key in Crusaders win over Wildcats

NAMPA, Idaho – Heather Adams scored a team-high 14 points as the Northwest Nazarene women's basketball team defeated Central Washington University 70-55 on Saturday night in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game at the Johnson Sports Center.

 

Megan Hingston joined Adams in double-digits with 13 points as the Crusaders broke a three-game slide to improve to 13-11 overall and 8-8 in league play.  Central Washington falls to 7-16 overall and 2-14 in GNAC action.

 

Dominating the glass for the entire contest, the Crusaders out-rebounded the Wildcats 55 to 29 as Beth Johnson scored six and had nine rebounds while a trio of NNU players in Falissa Smith, Alla Dzhidzhiyeshvili and Briaunna King had eight.

 

Stacy Albrecht led Central Washington with a game-high 20 points and matched Johnson's mark on the glass with nine rebounds.  Nneka Payne added 14 off the bench on six-of-eight shooting, including two-of-three from the three point line.

 

The Crusaders shot 41.1-percent (30-73) from the floor, held down by a 19-percent (4-21) mark from the three point line.  CWU finished at 36.8-percent (21-57) from the field and 30.8-percent (4-13) from the arc.

 

Committing 14 first-half turnovers, the Crusaders limited themselves to seven in the second half and finished with 15 assists as both Smith and Hingston had three each.

 

Luv Rattler led all players with five assists and added seven points and three rebounds to her stat line.

 

NNU will host a pair of games next week to close out the regular season as Saint Martin's University comes to town on Tuesday and Western Oregon visits Nampa on Thursday.  Both games begin at 5:15 p.m. and are part of doubleheaders with the NNU men's team.
