NAMPA, Idaho - Northwest Nazarene's
Andy Maxwell sent the game into overtime with a 24-foot three-pointer with two seconds to play in regulation but Western Oregon University outscored the Crusaders 14-10 in the extra frame to claim tonight's Great Northwest Athletic Conference game 79-75 at the Johnson Sports Center.
The Crusaders (4-3, 0-2 GNAC) were led by
Keith Moilanen who made seven of 11 three-pointers to score a game-high 30 points. NNU shot 44.1-percent from the three-point line, making 15 of 34, with Maxwell finishing with 12 points on four triples.
The Wolves (7-1, 2-0 GNAC), who improved their winning streak to seven-straight, answered with a balanced attack as five players reached double-figures. Kyle Long led the way with 15, Blair Wheadon had 14, both Kolton Nelson and James Gehring added 13 and Jordan Freelander finished with 11.
NNU out-rebounded the Wolves 34 to 32 but committed a costly 23 turnovers while Western Oregon had 12 assists against 13 turnovers. Wheadon led the way with a game-high six assists for WOU.
Western Oregon also held a significant edge at the free throw line, converting 23 of 27, while the Crusaders only attempted 10, making eight.
NNU will return to action on Tuesday night, hosting the United Heritage Mayors' Cup game against The College of Idaho. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
