Vikings defeat Crusaders 4-0

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington scored twice in each half on their way to a 4-0 victory over the Crusaders on Saturday evening in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at Orca Field in Bellingham.

WWU's Katie Stauffer scored in the 17th minute and Joana Houplin in the 29th minute to stake the Vikings a 2-0 lead into the half.  The Vikings improved to 7-5-3 overall and 6-4-1 in GNAC play while the Crusaders fell to 4-11-0 overall and 2-9-0 in league action.


Taylor Abrass added the Vikings third tally in the 72nd minute and Megan Chapin scored with 36 seconds left for the final goal of the evening.

NNU goalkeepers Monique Ray and Sarah Staropoli each surrendered two goals as Staropoli played the final 59:43 in goal for the Crusaders.

Jamie Arthurs made four saves for Western, who out-shot the Crusaders 26-9 and held a 8-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Crusaders will return to action next weekend at home, hosting Seattle Pacific University on Thursday afternoon at the NNU Soccer Field.
