Megan Hingston posted her first career double-double to lead the Northwest Nazarene University women's basketball team to a 75-62 victory over Montana State University Billings tonight in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game at the Johnson Sports Center.
Hingston scored 14 and grabbed 11 rebounds, both career high's, as the Crusaders improved to 9-6 overall and 4-3 in GNAC play.
MSUB, now 7-7 overall and 3-3 in league action, was led by the reining GNAC Player of the Week, Bobbi Knudsen with a game-high 16.
The Crusaders jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back, leading by as many as 16 in the opening half after a
Beth Johnson lay-in in the paint made it 25-9 with 9:27 left. Johnson finished with 13 points and nine rebounds, combining with Hingston to lead the Crusaders to a 51-35 advantage on the glass.
Leading 39-30 at the half, the teams traded baskets to open second-half play and then NNU's
Falissa Smith buried a three-pointer to push the Crusader lead to 12 at 44-32. NNU would hold a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest. Smith finished with six points and six rebounds and
Chelsie Luke added 10 points and six rebounds.
Also in double-figures for the Yellowjackets were Beata Bak and Sarah McNamee with 12 and 10, respectively.
The Crusaders will now host Seattle Pacific University on Saturday in a GNAC afternoon tip-off at 1:30 p.m.
