Seasiders coast past Crusaders 4-1

| By:
Laie, Hawaii - The Northwest Nazarene men's soccer team fell 4-1 this afternoon in a West Region non-conference match at BYU-Hawaii.

Surrendering three first-half goals, the Crusaders trailed 3-1 at the half.  "Today's match was challenging in several ways," commented NNU head coach Coe Michaelson.  "We played under challenging conditions and committed some unfortunate mental errors."

BYU-Hawaii (1-1) scored early when Eric Lowe netted an unassisted goal in the 6th-minute, chipping in the rebound from a mishandled free kick.  However, the Crusaders (1-1) answered just one minute later as John DiLulo scored his first collegiate goal, bending in a shot off the far post.

The tie would only last 61-seconds as William Barber's shot bounced off NNU goalkeeper Zander Engemann and put the Seasiders in front for good.  BYUH added goals in the 23rd and 65th minute to finish the 4-1 victory.

"BYU-Hawaii played resolute defense in the second half and we just had too much to overcome," Michaelson added.

The Crusaders held a 10-8 shot advantage and a 2-1 lead in corners.  Mitchell Rice made one save in relief of Engemann in goal for NNU.

NNU will now prepare for their third and final match of the trip, a Monday showdown with Hawaii Pacific University at 3:00 p.m. in Waipio.
