20th-ranked Vikings down Crusaders 2-0

NAMPA, Idaho - The 20th-ranked Vikings from Western Washington University defeated the Crusaders 2-0 this afternoon in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer match at the NNU Soccer Field.

The Vikings (6-0-1, 3-0-0 GNAC) opened the scoring in the 8th-minute off a shot from Claire Morgan.  Morgan found the net from the right corner of the penalty box after breaking loose from the defense.

WWU scored a second goal in the 84th-minute when Kayla Russ scored from 13-yards out off a free kick by Morgan.

NNU (3-4-0, 1-2-0 GNAC) goalkeeper Tanya Zickefoose made four saves and the Crusaders held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.  The Vikings finished with a 15-9 edge in shot attempts.

WWU keeper Jamie Arthurs also hustled for four saves.

The Crusaders will return to action on Saturday, hosting Simon Fraser University in a GNAC match at Noon.
