John DiLulo scored on a header late in the first half to snap a 2-2 tie and Northwest Nazarene went on to defeat Western Washington
3-2 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's soccer game Thursday at Nampa.
The Crusaders (4-1-0, 1-0-0) ended the Vikings (3-2-2, 0-1-1) five-game unbeaten streak with the victory.
After DiLulo's goal which was his second of the game, the teams played a scoreless second half though a total of 16 shots were launched, including 10 by the Vikings. NNU goalkeeper Mitch Rice had six of his seven saves after the break.
For the game, Western Washington outshot Northwest Nazarene 19-12 and also had a 9-5 corner kick advantage. WWU's Christian Warman had three saves.
Western had a 2-1 lead early on. Its first goal came on a Oscar Jimenez free kick from 23 yards at 4:33.
After DiLulo tied it at 22:41, WWU needed just nine seconds to reclaim the lead as Andrew Weishaar put a shot just under the crossbar off a cross from Gibson Bardsley.
NNU, however, tied it at 2-2 at 32:38 as John Stump converted a rebound of a shot by DiLulo, which was saved by Warman. Eight minutes later DiLulo got the game-winner.
