NAMPA, Idaho - The Northwest Nazarene University women's soccer team fell 2-0 to 19th-ranked Seattle Pacific University this afternoon in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at the NNU soccer field.
The Falcons (5-0-1, 2-0-0 GNAC) opened the scoring in the 26th-minute as Andrea Chan played a ball up the middle, finding Brittany Langdon at the top of the box. NNU goalkeeper
Tanya Zickefoose came out to challenge, but Langdon chipped a smooth shot over the top and into the middle of the net for her second goal of the season.
The Crusaders (3-3-0, 1-1-0 GNAC) were able to hold the Falcons at 1-0 into the break, but SPU struck early in the second half for the final goal of the day when Kellie Zakrzewski's shot from 15-yards beat Zickefoose inside the far post. Brandi Hamre assisted on Zakrzewski's second tally of the year.
NNU's most dangerous second-half scoring opportunity came in the 86th-minute when
Julianne Steele's corner kick was settled in front of the goal. However, the Crusaders could not get a shot attempt and the Falcon defense was able to clear the ball away, preserving the shutout.
Zickefoose had six saves for the Crusaders, while SPU's Maddie Dickinson made four.
SPU finished with a 10-6 advantage in shots and a 5-3 corner kick edge.
The Crusaders will return to the pitch next Thursday, hosting Western Washington at 2:00 p.m.
