NAMPA, Idaho - The Northwest Nazarene University women's soccer team opened Great Northwest Athletic Conference play this afternoon with a 1-0 shutout victory over Central Washington University at the NNU Soccer Field in Nampa.

The Crusaders (3-2-0, 1-0-0 GNAC) netted the winning goal in the 36th-minute when Jenny Field fired from 15-yards off a Central Washington defender's clearing attempt.  It was Field's first collegiate goal.

"I thought we played very well today," commented NNU head coach Jamie Lindvall.  "The pressure we applied in the first half yielded a  great situation for Jenny's goal.  Then Tanya (Zickefoose) played a great second half, making some outstanding saves to help preserve the win for us."

Central Washington (0-4-1, 0-1-0 GNAC) finished with a 9-7 edge in shots, however, the Crusaders held the Wildcats to just two shots in the opening half.  Corner kicks favored the visitors 8-5.

Zickefoose made four saves for the Crusaders, while CWU keeper Kori Butterfield had three for the Wildcats.

The win breaks the Crusaders 11-match conference winless streak dating back to September 19th of last season and is the first victory over Central Washington since September 15th, 2007.  It was the first league shutout for the Crusaders since October 10th, 2007 when NNU defeated Saint Martin's 3-0 in Nampa.

NNU will return to league action on Saturday, hosting Seattle Pacific University at Noon.
