NAMPA, Idaho - In a day-night volleyball doubleheader, Northwest Nazarene defeated Simon Fraser 3-0 and 3-0 to sweep a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference matches on Saturday at the Johnson Sports Center on the NNU campus.
Briana Classen and
Carly Dranginis each had seven kills to lead the Crusaders (2-5, 2-1 GNAC) in the opening match as NNU earned a 25-16, 25-17, 25-21 victory. NNU completed the sweep winning the evening contest 25-18, 27-25, 25-17.
"It was good to have the things we have been working on confirmed by winning," commented NNU head coach Jared Sliger. "When you are sitting at 0-5, all you can say to them is don't stop believing."
In the afternoon match, Kelsey Robinson and Cheryl Windhorst had eight kills each as Simon Fraser remained winless in its inaugural season in the GNAC.
NNU finished the match with a .241 kill percentage, while limiting SFU to a .067 percentage (31-25-89). Ten of SFU's errors came on NNU blocks as Becky Flores contributed to five of them.
Reisa Fessler had 10 kills and Becky Flores had eight kills, four blocks, and hit .615 to lead NNU in the nightcap.
The Crusaders hit .409 in the match, paced by Page Woodward, who posted seven kills and a .700 hitting percentage. Carly Dranginis joined Flores with eight kills and Briana Claassen led the Crusaders with 23 assists.
"Players are settling into their roles and are able to play more confidently," Sliger added. "I'm really proud of Page and Becky for their adaptability and physicality."
KJ Fridfinnson and Marina Liarsky each had 10 kills for SFU (0-7, 0-3 GNAC) and Jordan Drezet led all players with 36 assists.
NNU will travel to Montana State University Billings next Thursday and Seattle Pacific University on Saturday to play a pair of GNAC matches. All Crusader Volleyball matches may be viewed live on GNAC-TV at www.NNUsports.com.
