Saints End Crusaders Streak At Eight

Josh Grenier's two-run double in the sixth was the difference as Saint Martin's defeated Northwest Nazarene 7-6 in the opening game of a five-game series Thursday at Lacey.

The game was the makeup of a game from earlier this season that was unabled to be played in Nampa because the first game of a scheduled doubleheader went nearly 6 1/2 hours. The loss ended an eight-game winning streak for the Crusaders (26-19, 18-10).

The Saints (18-23, 13-11) scored the rest of their runs on home runs as Michael McIver in the second and by Zach Leonard in the fourth had two-run shots. Blaine Evans had a solo shot in the second.

Greg Christensen had three RBI for the Crusaders. He doubled for runs in the fifth and sxith and had a RBI ground out in the eighth. Tyler Nicholson had a solo home run in the fifth.

Antone Saltvick, the second of four Saint pitchers, got the win. Jesse Gwaltney was the losing pitcher.

The series continues with the regularly scheduled doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
