Hawaii-Hilo takes game five 6-3

HILO, Hawaii - Hawaii Hilo scored four unearned runs in the third to defeat Northwest Nazarene 6-3. The Vulcans now lead the six-game series 3-2.

Northwest Nazarene outhit UHH 12-8, but two errors in the third cost Jon Keller his first loss of the season. Keller allowed four hits during his three-inning stint.

NNU, which scored a single run in the first on a single by Keller, cut its deficit to 4-3 in the fifth on another RBI hit by Keller and a sacrifice fly by Ryan VanBeek.

The Crusaders, however, were shutout over the final four innings. Tyler Simao pitched three scoreless innings. Sheldon Otsuka pitched the ninth to save it for starter Aaron Correa, who allowed seven hits in five innings.

Ty Windall led NNU's attack with four hits. Keller and Connor Rankin had three each as the top four hitters in the lineup went 10 for 19. The series concludes Tuesday with another single game.
