Wolves slide past Crusaders 81-77

MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Western Oregon University men's basketball team slid past the Crusaders 81-77 on Saturday afternoon in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game at the New P.E. Building in Monmouth.
 
Free throws proved to be the difference in the four-point victory as the Wolves (5-4, 1-1 GNAC) finished 18 of 26 (69-percent) and the Crusaders (2-4, 0-2 GNAC) were 12 of 13 (92-percent).
 
Blair Wheadon led WOU in scoring with a game-high 29 points and Drew Eisinger paced NNU with 21.  Each team converted 28 field goals (NNU - 28-62 / WOU - 28-55) and the Crusaders made nine three-pointers against Western Oregon's seven.
 
NNU's Brian Barkdoll posted the only double-double performance of the game with 16 points and a season-high 15 rebounds and Anthony Golden added 11.
 
Joining Wheadon in double-digits for the Wolves were Tarance Glynn with 19, Kolton Nelson with 13, and Kyle Long with 12.
 
The Crusaders out-rebounded the Wolves 36-32 and dished out 15 assists against just 11 turnovers.  Point guard Jamie Eisinger had a game-high four assists and added eight points and four rebounds to his stat line.
 
The Wolves shot 50.9-percent (28-55) from the floor and the Crusaders hit on 45.2-percent (28-62) from the field.
 
The Crusaders will return to Nampa and host the second game of the 2010 United Heritage Tip Off Series against The College of Idaho on Tuesday night at the Johnson Sports Center.
