NAMPA, Idaho -
Anthony Golden came off the bench to lead the Northwest Nazarene men's basketball team to an 83-68 conference victory over the University of Alaska Fairbanks tonight at the Johnson Sports Center.
Golden stepped on the court with 15:00 minutes to play in the first half and promptly converted three-straight unanswered three-pointers in the span of just under two minutes to push the Crusaders three point lead to 19-7 with 13:07 left in the opening period.
"Anthony really jump-started us in the first half," commented NNU head coach Tim Hills. "We played a solid inside-out game tonight with Barkdoll playing big and our guards knocking down shots."
Golden finished with a game and season-high 28 points and
Brian Barkdoll posted a double-double of 19 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Drew Eisinger added 16 points and five rebounds and
Darious Walker scored six and grabbed eight rebounds as the Crusaders out-rebounded the Nanooks 40-35.
"We committed too many turnovers," Hills continued. "But we kept making shots and that offset the sloppy ball control. We can fix that and will need to with Alaska Anchorage coming to town on Saturday." The Crusaders committed 23 turnovers against 15 assists.
Jamie Eisinger finished with five points, four rebounds, and a game-high seven assists before leaving after a collision at mid-court with six minutes to play.
Parrish West led the Nanooks (3-5, 0-1 GNAC) with 20 points and both Aaron Kohring and Boe Edwards reached double-figures with 18 and 10, respectively.
The Crusaders (5-5, 1-2 GNAC) shot 53.6-percent (30-56) from the floor and an even 50-percent (8-16) from the three-point line.
Golden hit six-of-eight from the arc and
Drew Eisinger picked up the other two triples as only Golden and Eisinger attempted three's for the Crusaders. The backcourt duo also led NNU at the free throw line, combining to go 12-of-12 as the Crusaders finished 15-of-17 for the game.
UAF was held to 38.8-percent (26-67) shooting from the field, were one-of-eight from the arc and 15-of-24 (62.5-percent) from the free throw line.
NNU will host the University of Alaska Anchorage on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. in the nightcap of a GNAC doubleheader. The Crusader women's team will host Western Washington University at 5:15 p.m.
