BILLINGS, Mont. - Whitney Siler scored the game's only goal 76th minute to send Montana State Billings to a 1-0 win over Northwest Nazarene Saturday afternoon at Yellowjacket Field, and a possible trip the NCAA tournament.
"Our girls played a great game," commented NNU head coach Jamie Lindvall. "All credit to a very nice finish by a MSU Billings team that has had a great year and will be making their first NCAA tournament appearance. I was very proud of our girls for playing a great game today."
MSUB's game-winner came after a foul by NNU left the ball just inside the Jackets' zone.
Yellowjacket keeper Sabrina Grandke-Bawab came out of goal to take the free kick and launched it into the box where it found Siler's head. She then flicked the ball behind her and into the upper left corner at 75:42.
The goal was Siler's first of the season and Grandke-Bawab's third assist.
Montana State Billings (12-5-1, 9-5-0 GNAC) was ranked fifth in the final West Regional poll and now awaits word on weather it will receive one of the three at-large bids available for the regional. The Crusaders finish the season 5-13-0 overall and 3-11-0 in league play.
The Yellowjackets out-shot the Crusaders 9-6 as NNU's Tanya Zickefoose was credited with three saves and MSUB's Grandke-Bawab was not called upon to make a save, earning her seventh career shutout.
