NAMPA, Idaho - The University of Alaska Anchorage overcame Northwest Nazarene's upset bid on Thursday night, bouncing back from an opening set loss to defeat the Crusaders 22-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-22 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at the Johnson Sports Center.
Lee Golden led UAA (16-7, 11-4 GNAC) with a match-high 15 kills, while
Becky Flores paced the Crusaders (6-16, 6-10 GNAC) with 13 kills and eight digs.
Jackie Matthisen also reached double-figures for the Seawolves with 11 kills and Kailey Trautman posted the only double-double of the match with 11 kills and a match-high 19 digs for the Crusaders.
Quincy Haught shared match-leading dig honors with Trautman with 19 digs for UAA and Crusader senior libero Haley Hevern added 18 digs.
Hevern, second all-time in digs for the Crusaders with 1,494 and already the rally-scoring all-time dig leader, needs 45 digs in her final two matches to become the all-time leading defender in either scoring format. Hevern is chasing two-time NAIA All-American Liz Benear, who finished her decorated career with 1,538 digs.
The Crusaders will be back in action on Saturday night, hosting Alaska Fairbanks at 5:30 p.m. as part of the 2010 NNU Homecoming activities.
