BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Northwest Nazarene women's soccer team surrendered four second-half goals as the Western Washington University Vikings defeated the Crusaders 5-0 at Orca Field on Saturday afternoon in Bellingham.
"We played a very quality first half," commented NNU head coach Jamie Lindvall. "But then did a very poor job in the second at all the things we did well in the first. We definitely let Western dictate the second half and paid for it."
Claire Morgan, who has eight goals and eight assists on the season, scored twice and had an assist in the win. Joana Houplin also had a goal and assist as Western Washington snapped a two-game losing streak and the Crusaders have now dropped three in a row.
Morgan scored the game's first goal with eight minutes to go in the first half, stealing the ball at midfield and rocketing in a shot from 20 yards.
Four minutes into the second half, Molly Shannon made it 2-0, scoring off a volley from Morgan.
Late in the game, Western scored three goals in a span of just over 10 minutes against the Crusaders (5-12-0, 3-10-0).
Justina MacDowell tapped in a cross from Houplin in the 79th minute, Morgan scored from 16 yards in the 82nd minute and Alicia Patten slotted a through ball to Houplin, who ran the field and beat the keeper with a minute to go.
The Crusaders will close out the 2010 season next Saturday with a GNAC counter at Montana State Billings.
