BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Western Washington men's soccer team defeated Northwest Nazarene 7-0 on Saturday night in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at Orca Field in Bellingham.
Kellan Brown recorded a hat-trick to lead the Vikings (8-6-2, 3-4-1 GNAC), scoring the opening goal in just the second minute of play, and adding a pair of second-half goals in the 72nd and 90th minutes.
WWU's Justin Moore scored the Vikings second goal in the 25th minute on an 8-yard volley and the Vikings held a 2-0 lead into the half.
"We are beat up, missing some key guys, and they were excellent tonight," commented NNU head coach
Coe Michaelson. "They hit everything they looked at and played well. This next week we will try and get healthy and regroup for MSU Billings."
The Vikings would explode for five second-half counters as Gibson Bardsley scored in the 47th minute, Darragh Simm in the 59th minute, Tyler Bjork in the 84th minute, and the pair of Brown tallies.
WWU out-shot the Crusaders 21-7 and held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
Leo Cohen made one save for WWU and NNU's
Zander Engeman made six saves.
The Crusaders will close out the 2010 season next Saturday, traveling to Montana State Billings for a GNAC match against the Yellowjackets.
