NAMPA, Idaho - Tyler Schultz assisted on the second goal and scored the game-winner one minute later as Seattle Pacific held on to defeat Northwest Nazarene 3-2 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest Thursday at the NNU Soccer Field.
"Today the ball just didn't bounce our way and we dug ourselves too big of a hole with our poorest first-half of the season," commented NNU head coach Coe Michaelson. "Going forward we have to put together 90 minutes like our second-half from today...if we do that we will win a lot of games."
SPU scored all three of its goals during the opening 26 minutes. The Falcons started the scoring at 3:45 when Jon Pearman sent a six-yard volley into the goal off a corner kick from Drew Williams.
At 24:41 SPU scored again when Dillon Ballard served a free kick into the box that Schultz flicked on with his head. Blaine Carver headed the ball into the goal from three yards away for his fifth goal of the year.
Just 1:01 after the second goal, the third came on a five-yard shot from Schultz after a long throw-in by Brandon Kuenzi.
NNU (6-6-0, 2-4-0) countered with a pair of second-half goals by Brock Ogami at 70:53 and Stephen Davidson at 82:30, but SPU withstood a 9-3 Crusader shot advantage in the period.
Ogami's goal came from 12 yards after taking a pass from Daniel Clark. Davidson found the net from eight yards after taking a cross from Chris Arellano.
The Falcons faced two late shots during the final 7:30, but were able to prevent NNU from equalizing. Seattle Pacific (7-5-2) is on a season-best four-game winning streak and has been victorious in seven of its last eight games.
SPU keeper Kaleb Kuehn stopped three shots to claim his third win in as many starts in goal this season. Goalkeeper Zander Engeman was credited with five saves for the Crusaders.
