LACEY, Wash. – The Northwest Nazarene University women's soccer team fell 2-1 at Saint Martin's University on Thursday afternoon in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at the City of Lacey Regional Athletic Complex.

The Saints (5-4-0, 1-2-0 GNAC) scored twice in sixty seconds to jump out to a quick 2-0 lead as Jill Webb found the net from Megan Beisley in the 6th-minute and Nicole Nedervelt scored in the 7th-minute from Kayci Donatelli.

The Crusaders (3-3-3, 1-1-0 GNAC) then settled down to hold SMU scoreless the remaining 82 minutes, cutting the lead to 2-1 in the 77th-minute when Kendra Courcy shaped a free-kick from 25-yards out high and inside the far post.

“We came out sluggish and it cost us early,” commented NNU head coach Jamie Lindvall.  “But I was very proud of our girl's effort, especially in the second half.  They recovered from the momentum, settled down, and we almost made it all the way back into the game.”

SMU held a 14-6 shot advantage and a 3-1 corner kick margin.

Tanya Zickefoose hustled for seven saves for the Crusaders, while SMU's Ashley Engel was forced into two.

The Crusaders will now travel to Monmouth, Ore. And face Western Oregon on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. PT.
