Crusaders fall 8-3 and 11-0 on Saturday

NAMPA, Idaho - The Northwest Nazarene baseball team fell 8-3 and 11-0 to Central Washington University in the final Great Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader of the season on Saturday afternoon at Vail Field.
 
Freshman centerfielder Sean McDonald led the Crusaders at the plate, going six for eight on the day, while senior first baseman Jimmy VanBeek finished his NNU career with three hits on Saturday, one of which was a solo home run in the ninth inning of the opener.
 
Seniors Brian Fields (0-5) and Andy Pottenger (1-6) took the pitching losses for NNU (15-31, 8-23 GNAC).
 
The Wildcats (18-28, 12-16 GNAC) Nate Wallen and Kevin Schneider led the CWU offensive attack, with Wallen finishing six for nine with four RBI, while Schneider going five for six with three RBI.  Wallen added his second home run of the weekend, a two-run effort in the sixth inning of game one.
 
Robbie Grimm (1-3) earned the game one win and Chris Jackson picked up the save, his first of the year. 
 
Andrew Snowdon (3-1) tossed a complete-game four-hitter in game two for Central, striking out 10 without surrendering a walk in his final game as a Wildcat.
