Saints top Crusaders 9-4 in rain-shortened game in Lacey

LACEY, Wash. – The Northwest Nazarene University baseball team fell 9-4 in a rain-shortened single game against Saint Martin's University on Saturday afternoon at Saints Field in Lacey.

The GNAC doubleheader was shortened to just one six-inning affair when rain forced two delays and eventually ended the day in the middle of the seventh inning of the scheduled nine-inning game.  

The Crusaders plated a run in the top of the seventh to make it 9-5, however NCAA rules state that the official score is that of the last full completed inning.

Sean McDonald and Connor Rankin each had two hits and one RBI for the Crusaders (14-28, 7-20 GNAC), who will finish the 2009 season next weekend at home against Central Washington University in a four-game GNAC series at Vail Field.

Boone Farrington went one for two with an RBI and Brian Fields took the pitching loss for NNU.

First baseman Michael McIver led the Saints (22-27, 15-16 GNAC), finishing three for three with three RBI, and Travis Jones, Ty Drake, and Ryan DiMascio each had two hits.  Casey Mitchell earned the win for SMU.
