Crusaders and Saints divide twinbill in Lacey

LACEY, Wash. - Jon Keller and James Douglas pitched their respective teams to wins Friday as Northwest Nazarene and Saint Martin's divided a Great Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader at Saints Field in Lacey.

NNU's Keller pitched a five-hit shutout as the Crusaders won the nine-inning opener 4-0. Saint Martin's bounced back to win the second game 5-1 on a two-hitter by Douglas.

Keller (4-5) walked two and struck out nine in the opener. Douglas, who has allowed just one run in his last two starters to improve to 4-7, didn't walk a batter and fanned four in his win.

In the opener, catcher Connor Rankin had a RBI single in the first and a sacrifice fly in the sixth to account for two of NNU's four runs. Sean McDonald, Ty Windall and Joel Oliver had two hits each.

Oliver had a RBI double in the seventh and also tripled to lead off the fourth, though he did not score.

In the second game, Shane Schoeneberg backed Douglas' two-hit pitching driving in three runs and scoring one.

In the first he singled and scored on a double by Michael McIver. He had a sacrifice fly in the second for a run and doubled for two runs in the fourth.

Shortstop Zach Leonard and Schoeneberg each had two hits. NNU got both of its hits in the fifth as Boone Farrington doubled with one out and scored on a two-out single by Ryan VanBeek.
