Crusaders fall twice to Western Oregon

Western Oregon rode home runs by Taylor Mieras and Bill Clontz to a 14-6, 6-4 doubleheader sweep of Northwest Nazarene Tuesday at Nampa.

The Wolves won all four games of the series to improve to 11-6 overall and 4-0 in the GNAC. Northwest Nazarene now sits at 6-13 overall and 0-8 in GNAC action.

In the opener, WOU took command with a six-run fifth inning, getting two runs on a four-bagger by Mieras and two more on a double by Thomas McCarthy.

Clontz led the Wolves with three hits, while McCarthy, Mieras and Kyle Boe had two each. Both McCarthy and Mieras drove in three runs apiece.

Jacob Pettit pitched the first 7 1/3 innings, allowing 11 hits and four runs to get the win. Connor Rankin led NNU with four hits. Jon Keller had two hits and two RBI.

In the second game, Clontz's two-run home run in the first inning got WOU off to a 2-0 lead. The Wolves added four more in the third, two on a double by Joe Pratt.

Travis Fox and Boe had two hits each for WOU. Jon Keller and Jimmy VanBeek had two each for the Crusaders.

Brad Carter pitched three innings in relief, allowing three hits and two runs, to record the victory.
