NAMPA, Idaho -
Cammy Dranginis and
Lindsay Grant finished their home careers in style on Saturday night, sending the Northwest Nazarene University volleyball team out with a 3-1 Great Northwest Athletic Conference victory over Western Oregon University in front of 1,632 NNU Homecoming fans at the Johnson Sports Center.
Dranginis finished with 15 kills and five blocks, while Grant had 12 kills and 17 digs in their final home match of the season. Fellow seniors
Eki Punimata and
Amy Higginson led the offense with 25 and 20 assists, respectively. Senior libero
Jackie Bourdon led the NNU defense with 22 digs.
"It's always tough to say goodbye to seniors, and when you have a class that has had this big of an impact, it's especially difficult," commented NNU head coach Jared Sliger. "I thought our seniors did a nice job of dealing with the emotion of the evening and playing a smart game of volleyball."
WOU (7-16, 4-11 GNAC) was led by Samantha Ward with 13 kills and Sylvia Herrold with 10. Danielle English led all defenders with 25 digs.
The Crusaders, who improved to 15-12 overall and 8-6 in the GNAC, will travel to Alaska next weekend to face UAA and UAF in the final two matches of the season.
