ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Central Washington University volleyball team upset Northwest Nazarene University 18-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-16 on Saturday afternoon in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match in Ellensburg.
CWU freshman Marcy Hjellum had career-highs of 16 kills and 22 digs and Kady Try also finished with 16 kills to lead the Wildcats.
Central Washington's win snapped a two-match losing streak for the Wildcats (13-10, 5-7). The loss was a damaging one for Northwest Nazarene (14-11, 7-5), which came in ranked ninth in the West Region.
In addition to Hjellum and Try, CWU was led by Erin Norris with eight kills. Brandie Vea had a team-high 24 digs and Carlee Marble had 44 assists, a team-best three aces and 10 digs.
Cammy Dranginis led the Crusaders with nine kills, while libero Haley Hevern led all players with 28 digs.
CWU outhit NNU .206 to .135 rebounding from a .212 to .054 deficit in the first set.
The Crusaders will return to Nampa next week and host Western Washington University on Thursday and Western Oregon University on Saturday evening.
