NAMPA, Idaho - The Northwest Nazarene University volleyball team swept Saint Martin's University 25-16, 25-13, 25-16 on Saturday night as the Crusaders and the NNU community helped support cancer research on Dig Pink Night at the Johnson Sports Center.
The Crusaders (14-10, 7-4 GNAC) were paced by
Cammy Dranginis, who hit .471 with nine kills, and
Lindsay Grant with seven kills in the quick, three-set match.
Haley Hevern, ranked 12th-nationally in digs per game, led all defenders with 25 digs.
In an effort to support cancer research, head coach Jared Sliger and the team organized the Dig Pink theme, with the main push being a paper airplane toss between games two and three.
NNU student Trevan Hauck was the big winner, tossing his airplane from the upper deck of the Johnson Sports Center to within one-foot of center court to take home a brand-new Nintendo Wii game system. The team sold the official pink airplane paper during the week for $2 per sheet and will donate all the proceeds to a cancer research foundation.
Teilissa Tua led the Saints (2-17, 0-11 GNAC) with nine kills and Kristin Anderson had eight. Cymbree Decosta led the setters with 22.
The Crusaders will now travel to Central Washington next weekend to face the Wildcats on Saturday, October 31st in Ellensburg, Wash.
