NAMPA, Idaho - Great Northwest Athletic Conference scoring leader Sam Charles scored two goals for the Yellowjackets as the Montana State University Billings men's soccer team defeated Northwest Nazarene University 3-0 in a men's GNAC conference match in Nampa on Tuesday afternoon.

Charles opened the scoring in the 9th minute for MSUB (9-3-2, 3-1-2 GNAC), converting a shot along the ground inside the far post, just past diving Crusader goalkeeper Cesar Lira.  Kyle Moriarty earned an assist on the play, feeding the ball forward from midfield to setup Charles 12-yard shot.

Jarred Weisen added the second MSUB tally in the 33rd minute as Jeremy DeHerrera and Charles each played one-touch passes to produce a low shot inside the near post for Weisen's third goal of the season.

Charles notched his league-best 16th goal in the 52nd minute on a penalty kick.  Charles was battling two NNU defenders up the middle and was clipped just inside the top of the box, forcing the penalty opportunity.

"There is nothing that we can do to change the fact that we have several players out of action due to injury," commented
Coe Michaelson. "My hope is that we have the character to respond and come out with the passion to finish strong in spite of it."  The Crusaders (5-9-1, 0-5-1 GNAC) have two matches remaining on the schedule, and are playing without three starting front-line players and two starting defenders.

The Crusaders will now have 11 days to prepare for Saint Martin's University as the Saints travel to Nampa on October 31st for the final home match of the season for NNU.
