NAMPA, Idaho -
Cammy Dranginis finished with a match-high 13 kills as the Northwest Nazarene University volleyball team swept past the University of Alaska Fairbanks 25-16, 25-16, 26-24 on Thursday night in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at the Johnson Sports Center in Nampa.
Dranginis, who hit .650 in the three-set match and did not have a hitting error, helped the Crusaders improve to 13-8 overall and 6-3 in GNAC play. NNU is currently ranked ninth in the NCAA D.II West Region and is tied for third with Western Washington University in the conference standings.
"Any time you can have double-digit kills with no errors, that's a pretty good match," commented NNU head coach Jared Sliger. "It was nice to see Cammy post those stats and with Cammy playing this well in the front, and having Hevern anchor the defense, it makes for a good 1-2 punch for us."
Crusader Libero
Haley Hevern again led all defenders with 20 digs, while
Lindsay Grant added eight kills and Becky Flores chipped in with six.
Megan Thigpen led the Nanooks (8-10, 2-5 GNAC) with 12 kills and two blocks, and Heather Lyons added nine kills.
NNU held the Nanooks to .089 hitting and hit .213 on their way to the home victory.
The Crusaders will now host the University of Alaska Anchorage on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. The Seawolves come to Nampa in second-place in the GNAC, just one spot above the Crusaders in the conference race.
