NAMPA, Idaho - Converting on three of only four shots on goal, the Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team defeated Northwest Nazarene University on Friday afternoon in a non-conference match at the NNU Soccer Field.
The Crusaders (0-4-0) pressured the Mountaineers (1-0-0) throughout the first half, out-shooting the visitors 8-1 in the opening period, but it was EOU that found the net in the 28th-minute when Lauren Robideau's high shot from 20 yards made it past NNU goalkeeper
Pip Herman. It was Eastern Oregon's only shot of the half.
The Mountaineers took a 2-0 lead in the 63rd-minute when Lauren Souza played a pass from Cristina McGahen up the middle and found the left side from 15-yards out, scoring her first goal of the season.
The Crusaders would cut the lead to one in the 82nd-minute as
Marie Smith was called upon to take a penalty kick for NNU following an Eastern foul in the box. Smith converted, but the celebration was short lived when just five minutes later Robideau added her second goal, beating two defenders in the middle and sending a shot just inside the left post.
The Crusaders will next host Carroll College on Thursday and then battle Canyon County rival The College of Idaho at home on September 17th in a pair of non-conference matches.
