PORTLAND, Oregon - Alex Mangeac recorded his first collegiate hat-trick as the Northwest Nazarene men's soccer team defeated Cascade College 5-0 in a non-conference match on Thursday afternoon at Williams and Smith Field in Portland.

Converting in the 22nd-minute off a pass from Jose Oregon, Mangeac scored the first of three straight goals for the freshman from Nampa's Skyview High School.  NNU is now 3-0-1 and will face George Fox University on Saturday afternoon in Newberg, Oregon.
 
Leading 1-0 at the half, the Crusaders settled the pace of play and out-shot the Thunderbirds 11-4 in the second half, with Mangeac connecting in the 60th and 63rd-minutes off assists from Brock Ogami and Drew Shidaker, respectively.

"It was Cascade's opening game, so they came out really excited and the first half was pretty sloppy," commented NNU coach Coe Michaelson.  "We talked about the pace at halftime and the guys really responded, settled the pace and created some great scoring opportunities."

Matt Larson and Brad Yuly added second half goals, with Josh Grewe and Brian Clemmons earning assists.  Larson struck in the 73rd-minute and Yuly in the 79th-minute.

The Crusaders finished with a 15-10 shot advantage and rattled Cascade goalkeeper Efrain Vargas with 10 shots on goal.  NNU keeper Mitch Rice stopped all three shots he faced in the match to earn his first win and shutout of the season.
