BELLINGHAM, Wash. --- Molly Shannon scored two goals in helping Western Washington University defeat Northwest Nazarene University, 4-1, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer game Thursday at Orca Field on the Whatcom CC campus.
It was the fourth straight win for the Vikings, who are currently ranked No.16 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America/NCAA Division II Coaches Poll. They improved to 7-2-0 overall and remain undefeated in conference play at 3-0-0.
Northwest Nazarene fell to 1-6-1 overall and 0-1-0 in league play.
Shannon opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 25th minute following a run down the left side, and closed it by chipping in a ball from 20 yards in the 90th minute.
Emily Frankland gave the Vikings a 2-0 lead in the 31st minute after a long run.
Northwest Nazarene cut the advantage to 2-1 in the 39th minute as
Marie Smith headed in a cross from
Molly Tipton, but the Vikings re-established a two-goal lead in the 65th minute as Lucy Miller scored from 10 yards.
Western's Claire Morgan had streaks of five games scoring a goal and three contests delivering the game-winning goal end, but had two assists. Frankland also was credited with an assist.
The Crusaders will now travel to Central Washington and face the Wildcats on Saturday afternoon.
