NNU Volleyball players experience Alaska on Friday afternoon
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Cammy Dranginis and Amanda Boschma combined for 26 kills and just five errors as the Northwest Nazarene volleyball team swept the University of Alaska Fairbanks 25-15, 26-24, 25-20 on Saturday night at the Patty Center in Fairbanks.

"It was good to bounce back after the disappointment of not playing well on Thursday," commented NNU head coach Jared Sliger on his team that now sits at 7-3 overall and 1-1 in GNAC play.  "Fairbanks is a good team and I was proud of how our team stuck to our game plan and executed."

Execution that included a team hitting percentage of .270 for the match, with Dranginis finishing with 15 kills and six blocks, while Boschma had 11 kills with three errors in 26 total attacks.  Haley Hevern led the NNU defense with 13 digs.

"Amanda played great tonight," Sliger added.  "Two of her three errors were out by inches, so she was putting the ball right where she wanted it."

Crusader setters Amy Higginson and Eki Punimata combined for 32 assists, with Higginson leading the charge in the opening set and Punimata quarterbacking sets two and three.  Punimata finished with 23 assists and 10 digs.

"Eki did a good job," Sliger said.  "She came in and followed Amy's strong performance in the opening set and we didn't miss a beat."

The Nanooks (8-4, 2-1 GNAC) were led by Heather Lyons with seven kills with Megan Thigpen and Korlyn Bolster each finishing with five.

NNU will play their long-awaited home opener this Thursday when they host Western Oregon University at the Johnson Sports Center.
