NAMPA, Idaho -
Kim Bowen and
Stacey Beckman each scored their first goals of the season as the Northwest Nazarene women's soccer team defeated Canyon County rival College of Idaho 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match at the NNU Soccer Field.
Bowen broke the scoreless tie in the 40th-minute when she controlled the ball after a clearing attempt by the C of I defense was deflected back toward the Crusader forward. Her shot from the 8-yard mark finished just inside the left post for her first goal of the season.
Leading 1-0 at the break and having out-shot the Coyotes (4-3-0) 9-4 in the first half, the Crusaders defended a different team in the second half as C of I out-shot NNU 9-6, with two shots on goal.
Corner kicks were even at five each, but
Stacey Beckman made the most of
Jenna Johnson's offer in the 58th-minute when a Hannah Moh's header off Johnson's corner rebounded out and Beckman finished the play, also scoring her first goal of the year.
Pip Herman had three saves for the Crusaders, picking up her first collegiate shutout, while C of I goalkeeper Sadie Hughes had five saves.
The Crusaders (1-5-0) will now travel south to Arizona, playing Grand Canyon University on Saturday and BYU-Hawaii on Monday in Phoenix.
