Crusaders stay unbeaten with 1-0 defeat of Marauders

NAMPA, Idaho - A penalty kick in the 54th-minute was the difference as the Northwest Nazarene men's soccer team defeated the University of Mary 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference NCAA Division II match at the NNU Soccer Field.
 
Whistled for a foul in the 54th-minute, the Marauders (0-6-0) goalkeeper Derek Luptak faced-off with NNU's Ben Mangeac, with Mangeac scoring his second goal of the season on the penalty kick.
 
NNU out-shot UM 22-9 overall, including a 7-2 shots-on-goal advantage in the match.  Zander Engemann earned his fourth shutout of the season as the Crusaders improve to 6-0-1 on the year.
 
Mary's Luptak hustled for six saves, all coming in the opening period, while NNU's Engemann had two.
 
The Crusaders will travel to Montana next week to face the University of Great Falls on Thursday and open Great Northwest Athletic Conference play on Saturday at Montana State Billings.
