Waipahu, Hawaii - Cory Warburton earned saves in both games as the Northwest Nazarene University baseball team swept a doubleheader from Hawaii Pacific University at Hans L'Orange Field on Friday by scores of 4-3 and 4-1 .

NNU leads the West Region series 3-1 with the fifth and final game set for Saturday.  Host Hawaii Pacific (10-6) came into the series with a 9-3 record. The sweep improves the Crusaders to 9-2 on the season.

Warburton pitched a hitless ninth in the opener to preserve the win and then gave up one hit but struck out the side in the final inning of the nightcap.

In the opener, NNU overcame a 3-1 deficit scoring a run in the fifth on an error and two in the seventh on a triple by Jimmy VanBeek and an error. VanBeek also doubled for the Crusaders' first run in the second.

Alex VanOeveren got the victory, allowing eight hits in six innings. Tyler Liebelt set up Warburton for the save with two scoreless innings.

In the nightcap Andy Pottenger pitched out of numerous jams as HPU stranded 11 runners. Pottenger gave up seven hits and walked five in six innings, but surrendered just a single run to get the victory.

NNU went ahead 2-1 in the fifth as Ryan Bailey singled, advanced on two wild pitches and scored on an error. A wild pitch and sacrifice fly by Bailey gave the Crusaders a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.
