ANCHORAGE, Alaska - In a battle of NCAA Division II top-25 teams, the 23rd-ranked Northwest Nazarene University men's basketball team fell 77-61 to the 5th-ranked University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves on Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Athletic Complex in Anchorage.

 

The Seawolves, who are also ranked 1st in the NCAA West Region, improve to 18-3 overall and a perfect 9-0 in GNAC play.  The Seawolves have yet to lose an NCAA D.II game, with all three of their losses coming during the Great Alaskan Shootout to Division I teams, and have now won a school and GNAC record 16 straight games.

 

The Crusaders, ranked 5th in the NCAA West Region and now tied for second in the GNAC, fall to 14-4 overall and 6-3 in GNAC play and will return to host Seattle University and Montana State University Billings next weekend in Nampa.

 

Carl Arts led UAA with a game-high 21 points and seven rebounds, point guard Luke Cooper added 18 and McCade Olsen scored 16.  Cooper also totaled eight assists as the Seawovles posted 18 assists on thier 28 field goals.

 

Justin Parnell led the Crusaders with 20 points and tied Arts for game-high rebounding honors with seven.  Louie Beech scored 14 and Kendall Gielow netted eight.  NNU played without starting post Scott Helpenstell due to injury.
