Monmouth, Ore.-Western Oregon scored a season-high 116 points and had seven players in double figures as the Wolves raced past Northwest Nazarene 116-88 on Thursday night in front of 1,133 fans at the Physical Education Building.
WOU improved to 13-10 on the season and to 6-8 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. With the win, the Wolves avenged an 84-58 loss to the Crusaders in January in Nampa. No. 10 regionally ranked NNU fell to 15-7 with the loss and to 7-6 in the GNAC.
Freshman point guard Dane Johnson came off the bench to tally a career-high 19 points, and he also had a double-double with 11 assists. Johnson was seven-of-nine from the field and five-for-five from the free throw line.
Brad Krichevsky added 15 points, Mike McLaughlin had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Adonal Arrington had 17 points, Sam Kelly and Travis Kuhns had 13 each, and Liam Hughes had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Northwest Nazarene had five players in double figures, led by Justin Parnell's 17 points.
Tyler Roberts and
Louie Beech each scored 12, with
Jason Simmons and
Kendall Gielow adding 11 each.
Both teams came out to a flying start, combining for 33 points in the first five minutes of play. There were 12 lead changes in the first half, and the teams were tied at 30-30 with 7:40 to go in the half. But the Wolves went on a 23-9 run to intermission, including a 10-0 run that put the hosts up 50-32, their largest lead of the half.
Western Oregon would go on a 10-0 run early in the second half to push their lead to 78-52 with a little over 11 minutes to go. Their largest lead of the night was 31 points.
The Wolves shot a season-best 73 percent from the field, including 6-of-11 from three-point range. WOU also had 29 assists, and out-rebounded the Crusaders 34-26.
The Crusaders will now travel to Lacey, Washington and face Saint Martin's University on Saturday at 2 p.m. PST.
