NAMPA, Idaho - Exactly one week after the Northwest Nazarene University men's basketball team handed Colorado School of Mines their only defeat of the season, the Orediggers avenged the loss, defeating the Crusaders 77-72 in the second game of the Shilo Inn & Suites Classic, hosted by NNU at the Johnson Sports Center in Nampa.

Trading home losses to each other, the Crusaders fall to 4-2 overall, while the Orediggers improve to 4-1.  Both teams will play on Saturday as CSM will face Central Washington University at 3:30 p.m., while NNU will battle UC-Colorado Springs at 6:00 p.m.  Central Washington defeated UCCS 93-74 in the opening game of the classic-formatted tournament.

Dale Minschwaner led the Orediggers with the games only double-double, scoring 19 and grabbing 10 rebounds.  CSM out-rebounded the Crusaders 44-31 and held NNU to 41-percent (25-61) shooting from the floor.  Kyle Pape added 17 points and five rebounds as the visitors shot 48.5-percent (31-61) from the field and were 10-of-13 from the free throw line.

Kendall Gielow scored a game-high 20 to lead NNU with Louie Beech adding 14 and Tyler Roberts netting 10.  Uncharacteristically, NNU shot just 65.4-percent from the free throw line at 17-for-26.  NNU has led the NCAA Division II in team free throw shooting for much of the past two seasons.

NNU racked-up a 15-to-6 assist-to-turnover ratio, but the deficit on the glass was too much to overcome.

Central Wins Shilo Inn Opener

NAMPA, Idaho - Matt Penoncello and Jake Beitinger each scored 16 points to lead five players in double figures as Central Washington defeated Colorado - Colorado Springs 93-74 Friday in the opening game of the Shilo Inn Classic at Nampa.

CWU never trailed by more than one point in the contest facing that deficit three times including 38-37 with 58 seconds left in the first half.

Guard Jon Clift then put the Wildcats ahead for good making four free throws in the final minute. CWU then scored the first six points of the second half - four by Beitinger and two by Penoncello - to take command.

The Wildcats led by double digits for most of the rest of the game, including the final 13:45.

Joining Penoncello and Beitinger in double figures for the Wildcats were Brandon Foote with 15 points and Clift and Colton Monti with 12 each.
