NAMPA, Idaho - Adam Shildmyer converted a pair of free throws with eight-tenths of a second to play, giving the Northwest Nazarene University basketball team an 80-78 victory over the University of Montana Western in the second game of the 2008 Wendy's Classic on Friday night at the Johnson Sports Center in Nampa.

Shildmyer earned the free throws after the Crusaders ran the game clock down to under six seconds and the Bulldogs were able to tip an NNU lob pass away from the post.  A loose ball ensued and two UMW players fought for the ball, deflecting it to Shildmyer on the baseline who immediately attacked the basket, drawing the foul on Cody Thueringer.

Now 12-of-15 from the line after eight games, Shildmyer calmly sank both and helped the Crusaders finish a perfect 11-for-11 from the line on the night.

The Crusaders improve to 6-2 overall and will face San Diego Christian College on tomorrow at 7 p.m.  SDCC fell in overtime to The College of Idaho 88-85 in the opening game of the Wendy's Classic earlier this evening.  Montana Western, now 6-5 overall, will face the Coyotes on Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m.

Brian Barkdoll led the Crusaders with 15 and both Shildmyer and Scott Helpenstell finished with 12.  Louie Beech added 13 points and a game-high seven rebounds as NNU out-rebounded the Bulldogs 32-25.

JaRon Brown scored a game-high 35 points to lead the Bulldogs, going 14-of-16 from the floor and seven-of-nine from the free throw line.    Also in double-figures for UMW were Brandon Lawson with 11 and Terry Hauser with 10.

The Crusaders shot 53.1-percent (31-60) from the floor, but just seven-of-24 from the three point arc.  "We didn't exactly light it up out there tonight," Hills added.  "But the rebounding and free throws earned us the win."

Both teams comitted just 11 turnovers with impressive 19 to 11 (NNU) and 22 to 11 (UMW) assist-to-turnover ratios.

Tyler Roberts led the NNU offense with six assists, second only to Eric Lipkin, who finished with a game-high nine assists, five points, and four rebounds for the Bulldogs.

College of Idaho 88, San Diego Christian 85 OT

NAMPA, Idaho - Five College of Idaho players scored in double figures and the Yotes rallied from a 12-point second half deficit to force overtime, as The College of Idaho stopped San Diego Christian, 88-85, in the opening game of the Wendy's Classic at the Johnson Sports Center in Nampa.

The Hawks (3-4) built a 51-39 lead with 14 minutes remaining on a Jesse LeBeau trey, but the Coyotes rallied, using a 23-5 run over a six minute stretch, capped by a Craig McGee lay-up, to take a 62-56 lead.

SDCC would respond, retaking the lead at 70-68 on a Craig Jackson runner, with 13 seconds left.  The Coyotes (5-6) would hand the ball to Kelvin Potts, who went coast to coast for a lay-up with five seconds remaining to send the game to the extra session.

In overtime, a triple by LeBeau gave the Hawks their final lead at 80-79, but a Bryan Champ three-point play gave the Yotes the lead for good.  The Coyotes would hit nine-consecutive free throws down the stretch to ice the victory.

Steffen Spinks led The C of I with 18 points, with Potts adding 15.  McGee had 14 points, Champ 13, and Brian Bergerson 12 in the victory – as the Yotes committed just two turnovers after halftime.  Paul Wolf led all scorers with 19 for the Hawks, with James Green scoring 16 points and pulling down a game-high 16 rebounds.
