NAMPA, Idaho - Jocelyn Charette scored three goals and Meredith Teague added two as the 6th-ranked Seattle Pacific University women' soccer team defeated Northwest Nazarene University 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match in Nampa.
Charette opened the scoring for the Falcons in the 15th-minute on a ball served up the middle by Teague, finishing inside the left post from 15-yards. Shannon Oakes would add an unassisted goal in the 25th-minute with a shot from just over 30-yards out that found the upper left corner of the goal for her fifth goal of the season.
The Falcons, ranked 6th-nationally and 3rd in the NCAA Far West Region at 14-1-2 overall and 8-1-1 in the GNAC, would take a 2-0 lead into the half but then explode for seven goals in the second period.
Charette would add her seventh and eighth goals of the year in the 49th and 50th minutes, respectively, and Teague would score her 10th and 11th goals in the 50th and 59th minutes. Mallorie Gerstmann added a rebound goal in the 60th-minute and Kayla Stiegemeier touched a free kick from Kelsey Jenkins in at 68:37. Brandi Hamre finished a nice cross from Mandy Verdoia in the 69th-minute to complete the scoring frenzy at 9-0, tying the GNAC record for goals scored in a conference match.
Janae Godoy and Oakes both finished with two assists and Teague, Charette, Jenkins and Verdoia each earned one.
The Falcons out-shot the Crusaders 32-8 and held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Pip Herman had 11 saves for the Crusaders and Jesslyn Rahm and Maddie Dickinson combined to stopped all three NNU shots on goal.
The Crusaders (1-16-1, 0-10-0 GNAC) will host Montana State Billings next Thursday and Central Washington on Saturday in their final two matches of the season.
