Efficient Crusaders sweep Alaska Anchorage

| By:

NAMPA- The Northwest Nazarene Women's Volleyball team rallied back after Thursday's close loss to sweep the Seawolves of Alaska Anchorage 30-17, 30-21 and 30-26 at the Johnson's Sports Center in Nampa.

Leading the way for the Crusaders offensively was senior Chelsea Pelton with 12 kills on a .524 hitting percentage. Also in double digits for the Crusaders was Loni Evenson with 10.

"These two girls have just been waiting for this to happen and they finally got it," commented NNU head coach Jared Sliger on his two seniors performances.

Pacing the defensive attack was Jackie Bourdon with 11 digs. NNU collected 11 blocks on the night, to go with their 39 team digs.

Efficiency played a key role yet again for NNU as they bettered the Seawolves in hitting percentage, .358 to .140 and in hitting errors 10 to UAA's 25.

"We've been kind of struggling the last couple matches in hitting percentage and errors so we had the girls focus on just hitting the ball and not thinking about anything else. It was kind of a 'don't stop believing' style in that they just thought about playing volleyball and nothing else" commented coach Sliger.

Scoring runs told the tale for the Crusaders on they night, as each game had its own run to give the ladies of NNU a roll. Game one started with an 8-1 run, game two had a 10-3 run in the middle to lock the win and game three started off strong as NNU led 6-2 in the early battle. The Crusaders surrendered the lead in only one game as they held the momentum strong brought about by their active crowd.

Pacing the Seawolves were Kim Stolk with 11 kills and Rachel Kidwell with 10. Defensively UAA was led by Rhea Cardwell with 15 on the night.

With the win the Crusaders of NNU pull to 10-5 overall and 4-3 in GNAC play. The Seawolves of UAA slide to 5-8 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
