SEATTLE - Cammy Dranginis and Loni Evenson each posted double-doubles as the Northwest Nazarene University volleyball team swept Seattle University 31-29, 30-24, 30-27 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match on Thursday night in Seattle.
Ranked sixth in the Pacific Region and looking to secure a post-season invitation, the Crusaders took care of business on Thursday as Dranginis had 12 kills and 11 blocks while Evenson hustled for 17 digs and 12 kills to move the Crusaders one step closer to their first post-season appearance since NNU transitioned to NCAA Division II.
"Loni (Evenson) came up big for us tonight in crunch time…with a block, an ace and a dig to spark the run in game three," commented NNU coach Jared Sliger.
The Crusaders overcame deficits in both games one and three, coming back after trailing 26-29 to take game one 31-29 and then falling behind early at 10-16 before rallying to a 30-27 victory.
NNU, now 11-6 in GNAC play and 17-8 overall, hit .183 and held the Redhawks to a .117 clip, out-blocking the hosts 13 to 9.
Seattle (7-10 GNAC, 10-15) was led by Libby Graff who had a match-high 15 kills and Emily Deleissegues who had a match-best 25 digs. Nikole Thompson and Shelly Anderson both had 11 kills.
The Crusaders, winners of seven of their last nine matches, will now travel to Montana State University Billings to face the Yellowjackets in their final regular season match on Saturday at 7 p.m.
