NAMPA - The Northwest Nazarene University women's soccer team played step-for-step with the second-ranked team in the country on Saturday as Seattle Pacific University needed a goal in the 88th minute to defeat the Crusaders 2-1 on Senior Day in Nampa.
"Our girls played very well today," commented NNU head coach Jamie Lindvall. "This was a great way to finish the season and the effort was tremendous. Amanda (Peters) was great in goal, and coupled with some quality defense, really held us in the game the entire time."
SPU, who finish the regular season a perfect 20-0 and 14-0 in conference play, opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Janae Godoychad headed home a Sarah Martinez cross for her eighth goal of the season.
The Crusaders evened the score in the 25th minute when Kendra Courcy's long shot from 35-yards out bounced over the head of SPU keeper Jesslyn Rahm for her second goal of the season.
Tied at 1-1 into the final minutes of the game, Amanda Johnson scored the game winner in the 88th minute when she handled a long pass and then evaded two defenders on her own, beating NNU keeper Amanda Peters to the left post.
The Crusaders finish the 2007 season at 7-10-2 overall and 4-9-1 in GNAC play.
