NAMPA, Idaho - The Northwest Nazarene University volleyball team saw their winning streak come to an end on Thursday, falling to the Wildcats of Central Washington 30-28, 29-31, 28-30 and 18-30 at the Johnson Sports Center in Nampa.
The Crusaders, currently fourth in the Pacific Region and winners of six straight before Thursday, struggled as they hit .216 compared to the attack of the Wildcats at .294.
Leading the way for NNU in kills was sophomore Cammy Dranginis with 18. Also in double digits for the Crusaders were Lindsay Forseth (10), Chelsea Pelton (12), and Loni Evenson (10). Pacing NNU in assists was Allison James with 50. NNU did have a decent night defensively as they had 11 team blocks to the Wildcats three.
Paving the way for the Wildcats was Rachael Schurman with a game-high 24 kills on a .326 attack percentage. Also in double figures for Central were Erin Norris with 15, Kayla Roof with 10, Bree Brandt with 10, and Kady Try with18. Maggie Olson handed out a match-high 65 assists.
With the loss, the Crusaders dropped their first contest in seven attempts and fall to 16-7 overall and 10-5 in GNAC. The Wildcats climb to 11-13 on the year and tie NNU for third-place in the GNAC at 10-5.
NNU will now host league-leading Western Washington on Saturday night at 7:30 at the Johnson Sport Center.
The volleyball game will be the third leg of a rare basketball-basketball-volleyball triple-header as both NNU basketball teams will play exhibition games prior to the volleyball match as part of NNU's Homecoming Weekend.
